Blog Entry #12 Problems Oh My

Problems Problems and more Problems!

Our groups plan was to film this weekend so that I (The editor of the film) can work on it during the week and submit our video to our blog. However there was miscommunication with the text messages not going through only one person was ready to film. This was not one persons fault it was technology not working. To overcome this problem we will film this weekend for sure and I will edit over the break to have this done for our group to submit for our due date.

Blog Entry #11 Further Plan

Further Plan
We have decided as a group that we will start our filming December 13, 2015. We are planning on 2-3 hours of filming and expecting to finish that day. We decided to communicate by text messages, we started a group chat to communicate when and where to meet up. This day will specifically be for filming. We will work on editing the film on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that same week. Once we edit our film we will submit it to our teacher so he can give us ideas on what to work on.

Blog Entry #10 Awards

Awards and Success of Related Film

The Lottery Ticket is a movie about a young man named Kevin Carson who lives in the projects and has to survive a three-day weekend after his neighbors find out that he won a $370 million lottery ticket.  This movie is somewhat related to our film but it won't be a comedy.
To begin with The Lottery Ticket was not a very successful film... The movie did not win any awards and its ratings were not that well either. It received 4.8 stars out of 10 from IMDb and 34% from Rotten Tomatoes. The idea for the movie was good this movie could have been very successful and may have possibly won some awards. However there were unnecessary actions used that could have saved the movie makers money to enhance the content of the film.
First of all, the movie could have saved money by using undiscovered actors (lesser known). This movie starred Shad Moss as Bow Wow (Top 500),  Ice Cube (Top 5000). These are famous well known actors. Starring famous actors will cost you hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. All in all the actors could have made this a hit movie, they just didn't play well in their position of the characters in the film.  The movie made $24,708,699 Gross in theaters in the United States

Our movie will star a teenage boy playing a young adult barely getting through paying bills for a house after college. Our movie will save money as we will not have to pay well known actors. We will work around that film to see the problems we saw and will better our film off of their problems.

Blog Entry #9 Costume/Set Design

Costume/Set Design

As a group we decide on the characters costumes. Zack and Josh will both be in normal everyday street clothes. We decided that that would be most appropriate for both characters because they are low income adults and we wanted to give the movie a real feel nothing out of the ordinary. Our sets will also be normal, when filming inside and outside of Zack's house, the truck and the shopping center (Publix). We all agreed that the more realistic we make this movie feel, it will give the audience the inspiration that miracles can happen and you need to keep going.

Blog entry #8 Ticket Sales & Distribution

Process of creating a movie

http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/movie-distribution.htm       - I received my research from this site
  • A person has an idea for a movie they create an outline for that movie to find out if any company is interested in making the movie
  •   Once a customer/studio/investor purchase the ideas for the film all the people necessary to create a movie (screenwriter, producer, director, cast, and crew).
  • Once the movie is done it is sent to a studio where they make licensing agreements with a distribution company, the distribution company determines how many copies of the film are going to be made.
  •        The distribution company shows the movie to buyers who represent the movie theaters
  •        The buyers negotiate with the distribution company on which movies they wish to lease and the terms of the lease agreement.
  • The final prints are sent to the theaters a few days before the film comes out in theaters
  • A person who is interested in watching the movie buys a ticket and watches the film

Blog Entry #7 Camera Shots and Angles Research

Camera Shots and Angles Research

During our groups film making process I figured it would be most appropriate to research filming techniques, and I learned quite a bit.

http://www.videomaker.com/videonews/2012/07/perspective-angles-can-change-a-characters-mood-or-feeling

*Camera shots and angles can help build a character

-Besides dialogue a character can be enriched
-Low angles (make character appear bigger then life/ confident/ important)
-At eye level or slightly above (pointing down) can represent the character looking harmless, innocent
-POV, gives a feeling of being the person or in their shoes
-You can change the shots and angles to give different feelings

Blog Entry #6 Storyboard

This is our groups storyboard

My role in creating the storyboard was basically creating it. By creating it I mean drawing out the pictures for what the viewer will see when the film will be created. This storyboard is the majority of what we will show in our two minutes of film. In the storyboard we inserted information about what goes on in each take, we also wrote what kind of shot it will be and we finally wrote what types of editing transitions will be used cut by cut. We believe that this is a good start and it gave us a better understanding of what our 2 minute film intro will look like.

Blog Entry #5 Location List

Location List:

1. Zack's House
2. Josh's truck
3. Publix

At Zack's house this will be the opening of our two minute film. At this location a good part of our 2 minute scene will take place as Zack prepares for a bad day.

In Josh's truck another location, here there will be shots of Zack and Josh heading to Publix for a regular trip to buy a scratch off with Zack's last few dollars.

Publix the last location for the scene is where Josh and Zack pull up and they talk for a bit, after a quick conversation Zack heads off to buy a scratch off. Zack will purchase the scratch off and exit the store to scratch off the card and find out he won big!

Blog Entry #3 Group Project Plan

As a group we decided to do the film project. We came to the decision because we all believe it was the best fit for all of us because it would be a hard decision on which magazine article topic we would agree on. We are a group of 4. The group is Josh, Zack, Corinne, and I. Our jobs are as follows; Josh- Actor/ Corrine- Filming, Actor/ Matt (Me)- Actor, Editor, Filming/ Zach-Writer, Actor. The film will be about a man having a very bad day and everything changes when he wins big on a scrach off. We decided that the targeted audience will be teens and adults becuase its about a more serious story/encounterment. We will make a comercial to air on popular teen and adult tv show channels to market and advertise to our audience of teens and adults. We agreed that this is a viable product because, it will be focused as a serious movie of hard times and when luck strikes it gets better. As a group we decided that the film will be distributed in the theaters and on DVD's.

Blog Entry #2 Film Project

As for the film project, I believe that my skill set and background knowledge on film making would help in the making of the film. I believe that that the film would be a good fit for me because I understand some film making techniques and processes in creating a film. For example in my media studies class we observed three films (All Presidents Men, Ferris Bullers Day Off and News Room). These films presented all the techniques to create an award winning film, with each of these films we watched documentary's that were about the making of these films and it explained in depth the problems that can occur, how they over came them as well as how well the movie did. As for my prior knowledge before the course, I have some basic editing and filming understanding which is a start to creating a film. However, this film project may also become quite the hassle like figuring out a plot, gathering actors, extras and getting the group together to film and work together. For me in my personal opinion I believe that the film may be a hard strenuous task as it will create a challenge in learning new things and ways of creating a film. All in all the film sounds like a great idea and I believe it will be a challenge. I want to challenge myself so the film project may be the fit for me.

Blog Entry #1 Magazine Project

The magazine project:

Creating a magazine would be a fun task because I want to learn more about the media. I want this to be a challenge, so that I can get the experience of how it would be to be a journalist. Some tasks like constructing the magazine may be easy because I am certified in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. This will give me background knowledge to help me succeed in creating the magazine. I read the newspaper on Saturdays when I volunteer, so I have an understanding of the content as well as the layout of a professional magazine. However, I will encounter problems in the creation of my magazine. Some problems that i think will arise are keeping the content focused on a certain audience. I also think that coming up with ideas for topics to write about in the magazine may become a problem. Finally I think that my group working skills may become a weakness, however I choose to work in a group to help myself become better with working with other students on an assignment. All in all I am very excited for this project and I am looking forward to building new skills and further my knowledge about media.
