Blog Entry #36 Progress...

On 4/7/2016 & 4/8/2016 I went back and revised my Creative Critical Reflection answers after I presented it to my class. My classmates and teacher gave me advice on what I should fix up and update to make the CCR the best it possibly can be. I also went back into my Prezi and fixed whatever I changed on Blogger.

Creative Critical Reflection Question 4

-How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware, and online- in this project?
Throughout our films production there were many ways that my group integrated technologies to create the final product. Our group also used many different software's, websites and programs to help mold our film. Throughout the project each member of the group kept a Blog (Google Blogger) to help with organization and to show our groups progress in creating the film. The Blog was a very helpful tool as we can write ideas and show our films progress which helped other group members if they did not understand something or missed a day. We used an iPhone 6 to film our movie, we were given the choice of using a high quality camera but we found that the iPhone was much easier to handle and use. As the film editor, I had to learn to overcome. By sitting down and researching all different types of software's (Movie Maker and I Movie). I found that Microsoft Movie Maker was the software that I was most comfortable with and that is what I used to edit and create our groups film. This was honestly one of the hardest parts in creating the film as learning proper uses and techniques of this software to create the finished project. The finished product was uploaded to YouTube where it can be viewed by anyone on the internet. All in all the group my group integrated many different technologies to create this project.

Creative Critical Reflection Question 3

-How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
When our group decided to do a film project we thought that it would be quite challenging since not one member of the group had any practice with creating films. When we were given jobs and roles in the production of the film, my job was the film editor. This was something I have never done in my life. I did lots of research on different types of film editing software and found that windows movie maker was the easiest to use. It took many days of practice to understand how movie maker works but once I understood the basics everything else was easy. Adding clips, trimming and deleting parts of the scene were all challenges that I faced in the production of this film. But as an overall question, my production skills have gotten a lot better as time went on in creating the finished product. My group was satisfied with my material and this really boosted my confidence for future productions.

Creative Critical Reflection Question 2

-How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
In the film industry there are many ways that films engage with the target audience. One way our group decided to engage with audience is through social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. We would pay for an ad to be shown on every users News Feed it would be our films trailer. When individuals would watch this it would show a link at the end that sends them to our website where the release date of the film is shown and pre-orders of the film can be made. This would help us gain publicity from our targeted audience and hopefully people will pre-order our film and spread the word.

There are many different ways that films can be distributed in the film industry. As a group we decided that we will distribute our film through production companies like Paramount or 20th Century Fox. While researching we found that these are the two most well known production companies this alone would help us gain publicity. If we were unsuccessful with getting with a major film company we would work to enter Film Festivals. This would help our film gain publicity as well as get our movie into the theaters in the festivals. We would submit our film to the local Sarasota Film Festival in high hopes of getting a shot of releasing our film here. If that didn't work out we would make a Website that has our film on it, giving the viewer the capability to purchase or rent our film. We would also post our movie on YouTube which will help us gain viewers and we would be able to make money off of ads which we can use to put towards advertising. The distribution of our film through large production companies is our first option however our backup plans will help our film become a success as well.

Creative Critical Reflection Question 1

-How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
Our final film used convention, we conveyed convection in our shots. Our opening scene starts off with an establishing shot as we viewed in our research in Ferris Buellers Day Off this would give the setting and time of day. We also shot an over-the-shoulder shot of Zack to show that he was in charge of the house. This shot shows that Zack has power and confidence. We used this technique because we wanted to symbolize that Zack had many responsibilities as a young adult. When I say responsibilities of a young adult I mean adults ages 18-23 that go to work every day and rely on a weekly pay check to pay bills, feed themselves and pay for other necessities. But when we speak of just responsibility we noticed it in a few films that we have viewed for research. We have seen this shot before in the "John Adams" episode we watched as a class. The over-the-shoulder shot that was portrayed in the "John Adams" showed that John was a leader and in-charge of his town. It also shows courage because he was the only one to go and help his people in the madness.  Our product also represents social groups and issues as young adults living day to day on one job, running into problems such as car breaking down, being evicted or even getting the call from their boss that they are fired. However in our case of the film a seemingly bad day changes for the good when Zack spends his last dollar on Publix 1 Million dollar scratch off that changes his life.

Blog Entry #31 Prezi

I decided to put my creative critical reflection question responses in a Prezi. This was my first time using a Prezi and I believe it was a great learning opportunity and I think I can use this technique in the future.

Blog Entry #28 Creative Critical Reflection Question 2 DRAFT

Creative Critical Reflection Question 2
-How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

In the film industry there are many ways that films engage with the target audience. Our films target audience is young adults that run into social and economic problems. This film really can compare to the real world young adults that need help because of financial troubles. Our product shows Zack, a hopeless young adult living day to day with one job. His normal life turns upside down when he receives a call from his boss that he is fired. This to many young adults can be a tragedy, stressful and the feeling that life has deceived them. But when all faith was lost Zack receives a text from his best friend Josh that said "1 million dollar scratch offs sold at Publix for 1 dollar!". Zack feels like this can be a life changing opportunity that he has to take. Without hesitation, he goes out to get it, and won! Our films plot can really relate to a large percentage of young adults in our country with daily problems and struggles. If you have good friends they can sometimes change your life.

There are many different ways that films can be distributed in the film industry. As a group we decided that our film will be distributed to our community. The way we will distribute information about our film is that we will hand out flyers at local high schools (with approval), hang up flyers in stores all around town (With approval) and stand downtown handing out flyers to the locals as well as the snowbirds to get our product name out there and get people talking about it. We would also get in contact with our local news station (CNN and SNN News 6) to talk to them and ask them if we would be able to advertise and talk about our film on the news (to get our product seen by other social groups other than our targeted audience(Adults, Elders, etc.)). These are just a few ideas that our group decided to distribute our film product to our target audience as well as other social groups as a real media text.

However in our case of the film Zack's problem was solved by spending a dollar on a 1 million dollar scratch off from publix changing his life.

Blog Entry #25 Revision 3

As soon as our group gets the final clip to add to the film my job will be to insert that clip into the old film. I have decided that I will post the original video, then the additional clip, and I will post the original video again to crop these videos to finalize the video. As a group we also decided that we will edit the clip when Zack drops to his knees and celebrates because we thought that this was an akward ending. We have chosen to end it right when Zack drops to his knees.

Blog Entry #24 Revision 2

We refilmed the clip to add to our film, however when the video showed up on the computer to edit the video file was blurry and unclear.

Our group still wants to add a clip to fill the hole in the plot, so we will reshoot a clip of Zack reading the text he recieved from Josh outloud.

Blog Entry #23 Revision 1

Revision

We decided that we will film a clip of Zack recieving a text from Josh saying "1 million dollar scratch offs at Publix for 1 dollar". By adding this clip it will hopefully fill a hole in the polt, becasue in our first class revision the students were confused about why Zack went to Publix until he purchased the scratch off.

Blog entry #22 Commercials

My group and I decided to analyze Super bowl commercials to find out how businesses and company do to promote their products. We will also be looking for the focused audience for each commercial as well as the persuasive techniques they use to encourage the consumer to buy their product

Super bowl commercials
1. Mountain Dew Kick Start (product)

The focused audience for this commercial are people from the age 18 to 30 (people who drink energy drinks both males and females)
The persuasive techniques for this commercial was by showing the audience3 awesome things combined (puppy monkey baby). This commercial used humor as an emotional appeal to purchase their product.

2. Doritos Ultrasound commercial

The audience that the company was focused on was middle ages parents. This commercial was mainly used to influence people to buy these chips. Mainly focused towards males more than females.
Humor was also the persuasive techniques to buy their product. Males will find this commercial really funny as this commercial shows a man joking around with his wife and she is unhappy with his actions. Women might not find it as funny since the birth of a child is not funny for women.

3. Heinz ketchup

This company dressed Weiner Dogs as hot dogs. This is an emotional appeal as most people will find this cute and funny, all while still trying to get the viewer to buy their Heinz Ketchup.
The audience that is targeted is families and people who have fun. (Parties, Barbecues, camping, etc.)

Doing this research helped our group decide that commercials will be an excellent way to promote our film. We will play our commercial on Cable networks like HBO,  ABC, Spike, FX, AMC etc. We decide on these Television Networks because we researched the age groups (Teen, Adults 18-40). These age groups are the ages that our film was aimed towards.

Blog Entry #21 Class Presentation and feedback (Revision)

Class Presentation and feedback
On January 20, I had the opportunity to present my blog to the class. This was a great opportunity because I was able to show my fellow classmates my blog and get their advice on possible additions to my project to make to better. Overall, my class thought that my blog was done pretty well. They enjoyed the presented visuals the students said that it helped create a better understanding on the whole film production process as well as seeing our groups progress from day one.

Now concerning my groups film project. The Day It All Changed, all of the students seemed pulled into the film they found it interesting as the story line of the film was easy to follow. What we did well? I believe that our group had one of the best film intros that the teacher showed. Our film was very smooth and easy to understand as well as entertaining. Other students films were very hard to follow, some had very little dialogue and overall the films were not the best... Our teacher gave us ideas on what we should revise. One thing that we believe that we should revise part of the story... When Zack calls Josh to pick him up to go to Publix, we decided to add some outside source to get Zack's attention to show the audience the reason for going to Publix to purchase a scratch off. We decided on adding a phone alert that Zack looks at showing the audience that Zack needs to buy a scratch off because he will become a millionaire if he wins.

I believe that this is a good idea because after getting a revision it made sense because we wrote the script we know what is going on, but we have to make that noticeable for the audience so they are not confused about why Zack is going to Publix.

Blog Entry #13 Filming

Filming
December 19, 2015 our group come together and filmed our group project. The main actor Zack memorized the script we all agreed on. During the filming we decided to make some changes that we thought would make the film better. So when we changed the script we decided that we make the few adjustments to our final script as well as our story board to give a more acurate represantation of our film shots. So far, our project has been going smoothly and we agreed on the finishing day of our project to be Friday January 9th.
